Rhys Ernst is a filmmaker and artist.

His debut feature film, ADAM, produced by James Schamus and starring Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Margaret Qualley, premiered as an official selection at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The film went on to win awards at Outfest, Oslo Fusion, and the Mezipatra Film Festival and was nominated for a 2020 GLAAD Award.

Ernst was a Producer and Director on Amazon’s Transparent and also created the show’s title sequence. He was nominated for a 2015 Emmy Award for directing and producing Amazon’s web series This Is Me. As a commercial director, he is represented by Radical Media, with clients including Google and Facebook.

His work has been exhibited at the Whitney Biennial, the Sundance Film Festival, Oberhausen, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, and institutions such as The Walker and The Hammer Museums. He has received two Special Recognition GLAAD Awards and has won honors at Outfest, the Chicago International Film Festival, and the L.A. and Seattle Transgender Film Festivals. Ernst also serves on the Board of Directors for Film Independent.

He holds a BA from Hampshire College and an MFA from CalArts and is based in Los Angeles.
